AI Visibility for Law Firms

AI visibility for law firms: the citation no vendor can sell you.

When a potential client asks ChatGPT or Google's AI who to call, the answer names a few firms. In our study of 236 legal citations, 67% pointed to the firm's own website. That's an asset you own, not one you rent. We build it on your pages. The trade calls that work GEO, generative engine optimization.

What it is

What AI visibility is, what GEO is, and why it matters to your intake.

AI visibility is whether an AI names your firm when a potential client asks it a legal question. Buyers now ask ChatGPT, Google's AI features, and Perplexity who to call. Each answer comes back with a few names in it. Ranking on Google gets you a link on a results page. AI visibility gets your firm named inside the answer itself.

GEO is the work that earns that naming. It means publishing findings on your own site that an engine reaches for when writing an answer. Our read on how GEO differs from SEO covers the mechanics.

Why it matters to your intake: the caller who got your name from the answer isn't comparing ten links. He arrives pre-sold on the name the answer gave him.

Here's what the 67% means for how you buy marketing. Most of what a firm buys sits on someone else's land. The directory listing, the ad slot, the vendor's ranking report. The citation is different. Engines cite the source that owns the finding, and most of the time that source is the firm's own website.

So we don't bolt on from outside. We work inside your brand and publish the findings there. Your firm becomes the source. Your site becomes the record. The citations land on ground you own, and nobody takes them with them when a contract ends.

GEO vs SEO

GEO vs SEO: what changes when the answer replaces the ranking.

Traditional SEO and AI search optimization aren't enemies, but they're not the same fight. Here's the difference, row by row.

Traditional SEO AI Visibility (GEO)
Rank on Google search results Get named inside AI answers
Optimize for keywords and backlinks Build entity authority and owned data assets
Drive clicks to pages Earn mentions across every engine that answers
Visibility means position 1 on page 1 Visibility means share of voice in the model's answer
Success measured in rankings and sessions Success measured in citations: how often the answer names you
Content optimized for human readers at rank Content answer-shaped for every engine that pulls passages
Links tell Google you're referenced Findings tell AI why you're the source

What you get

What we deliver every month. No black box.

Four named deliverables. Each one is a record you can check yourself, not a score you have to take on faith.

The Owned Data Study

We mine government and public records data and publish a verifiable finding in your market, on your site. That is the asset AI cites, with your firm as the primary source.

The Earned Placement Record

Every media placement we earn gets logged: the outlet, the date, the claim it validates. You see the coverage list itself, not an impressions report.

The Monthly AI-Citation Audit

We sample the actual AI answers in your market across Google's AI features, ChatGPT, and Perplexity. We screenshot what each engine says, who it names, and where your firm appears or doesn't. You see the real answer, not a vendor's proxy score.

The Citation-Share Report

Once a quarter we map how often AI names you against how often it names each active competitor. You see who the engines name most, on what topics, and the territory still unclaimed. That unclaimed territory becomes the next data study.

How it works

From the free read to the first citation.

Step 3

The build, on your pages

We publish the data studies and findings on your own site, with your firm named as the primary source.

The market read

The AI answers in your market, one business day away.

Internal buy-in

What to tell the partners who ask why this matters.

Every managing partner asks the same question before this gets approved. "Isn't SEO already handling this?" It isn't, and the answer isn't complicated.

SEO earns your firm a link on a results page. AI visibility earns your firm a name inside the answer, before the searcher ever sees a list of links to compare. Two different jobs. Right now, almost nobody in your market is buying the second one.

AI already names a firm every time someone asks it who to call in our market. In our own study of 236 legal citations, 67% of the time the answer pointed to the firm's own website, not a directory, not a referral service. The question isn't whether AI is deciding who gets the call. It's whether the name it gives is ours.

That's the paragraph worth forwarding. It doesn't need a vendor pitch attached to it, and it isn't a new law firm AI marketing trend to chase. It's a name in an answer, checkable in a market read, one business day away.

AI visibility and GEO for law firms, answered

What is AI visibility for law firms?

AI visibility is whether an answer engine names your firm when a potential client asks it a legal question. It's a different job than ranking: the link on a results page is SEO, the name inside the answer is AI visibility.

GEO stands for generative engine optimization: the work that makes an AI engine cite your firm as a source. SEO optimizes a page to rank for a keyword. GEO builds the findings an engine reaches for when it writes an answer. The two overlap less than most firms assume. Domains cited by AI Overviews and by the large language models share only 7.2% of their URLs (Search Engine Land, October 2025).

No. In our study of AI answers to legal hiring queries, firms' own websites were the cited source 67% of the time, ahead of directories at 21% and earned press at 11%. The bar for getting cited isn't ownership of a listing. It's ownership of a finding only your firm can publish.

No, and any agency that guarantees it is selling you a proxy score. What we guarantee is a citation record you can see and verify: which engine named your firm, on what query, and where the gap still is. If that record doesn't move, you leave. We work on rolling 30-day agreements for exactly that reason.

The first citations are usually measurable within 90 days. The compounding effect, where the engine learns your firm as the source in its market, takes six to nine months.
